PARIS, France — Supporters of the technology argue that facial recognition systems can help police fight crime and make the streets safer.

Rights groups have raised concerns because of the technology's reliance on huge databases with little oversight and potential for error. 

Facial recognition is a biometric technology used to authenticate or identify an individual from a photograph or a facial image.
