Cheers and tears: A look at moments during release of 2018 bar exam results
MANILA, Philippines — “The stage is literally set."
This is what the Supreme Court Public Information Office wrote on its Twitter account early morning Friday, the day the Bar exams results would be released.
In the tweet, a photo of the LED wall, that would later flash the names of the 1,800 new lawyers of the country, was shown.
The crowd started gathering: Bar takers, their families, friends, colleagues, fraternity brothers and sorority sisters camped out wherever they may find shade along Padre Faura.
An hour before noon of May 3, the Supreme Court opened its gates to the anxious crowd waiting outside its gates.
When Supreme Court Associate Justice Mariano del Castillo stood behind the podium, the crowd did not mind the sweltering heat of the sun and Manila’s humidity.
“I don’t want you to get sunburnt or worse yet, suffer a heat stroke. So I’ll be quick about this,” Del Castillo, the 2018 Bar chair, quipped.
The justice then continued: “There were 8,155 who finished all the eight subjects of the Bar Exams, out of the 8,701 who signified their intention to do so. Only 1,800 successfully hurdled the tests which means that only 22.07% emerged with flying colors.”

After Del Castillo finished his opening message, the LED wall started scrolling the names of the 1,800 successful Bar passers: Cheers and tears then filled the normally quiet SC grounds.
