MANILA, Philippines — On the sidelines of the East Asia Summit on Tuesday, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau faced the international press gathered in Manila and admitted that he talked to President Rodrigo Duterte on the state of human rights in the Philippines.
Trudeau appeared to have taken up the challenge to discuss the sensitive issue with the adamant Duterte, whose banner war on drugs has led to the killing of thousands of drug suspects in police operations, and thousands more by vigilantes.
