MANILA, Philippines – Presidential Communications Secretary Martin Andanar on Monday disclosed the parts of President Rodrigo Duterte’s speech that made him cry.
On Sunday, Andanar described Duterte’s speech, which he saw the draft of, as “powerful” and “emotionally stirring”. He predicted it would “awaken the patriotism in every Filipino. Ahead of the State of the Nation Address (SONA), he also mentioned that the president will make an announcement that will make Filipinos fall from their seats.

“Noon ako'y nagtago sa kuwarto, doon na ako naglupasay. Doon (Duterte's patriotism, care for the younger generation) ako naiyak. Naluha ako, but that's just me,” Andanar earlier said when asked for his reaction after initially reading Duterte's speech.
These statements however raised expectations of Filipinos on Duterte’s delivery of his speech in his first SONA. Netizens and some personalities questioned Andanar’s earlier statements and lamented that they waited for the part where Duterte’s speech will move them.
Some personalities and netizens took to Twitter to criticize Andanar for his earlier pronouncements and even dismissed it as “spin.” Sen. Panfilo Lacson said instead of “crying” Duterte’s speech made him laugh.
"I read the speech, it made me cry."... We listened to the speech, it made us laugh.

Eh may spin na si Martin Andanar re "Maiiyak kayo, malalaglag kayo sa upuan" hoohaa yesterday. Subjective naman pala, hindi prophetic!

I may have missed something but I'm really wondering which part of the draft #DuterteSONA made Sec.Martin Andanar cry.

Please help.
Please.
Akala ko na nakakaiyak? Baka naluha lang si Andanar sa antok?

Walang naiyak, walang nahulog sa upuan, walang naglupasay. I guess Martin Andanar read a totally different speech.

I did not see it. After the sona, how many transformed into crying patriots as Andanar predicted?

Due to this, other netizens even created a Twitter account named “Umiyak nb si Martin” containing tweets that show Andanar’s struggle of finding time to cry during Duterte’s speech.
Andanar however said when the first time he read Duterte’s speech, the first and the last page of 15-page speech of the president moved him. He revealed to Philstar.com, that he cried when Duterte talked about the separation between God and the State since he is a former lay minister as well as other parts of the speech.
