Gov't urged: Expand the 'pie' to avoid 'Occupy Wall Street' spillover
MANILA, Philippines - The "Occupy Wall Street" movement in the US can possibly spill over to Manila, a non-government organization today said.
Ric Reyes, president of the Freedom from Debt Coalition, said there have been similar protests happening in the country like the recent power-off drive.
"In the recent power-off drive which condemns the high electric rates in the country, we we're able to mobilize around 500,000 households nationwide which turned off power from 7:30 am to 8 am," Reyes said.
He said the Occupy Wall street protests is now sweeping the world because it is a movement against corporate greed which has caused massive unemployment in America. Reyes noted that the American capitalism's concept is to have an "ever growing profit."
