Victims died violently, extreme pain--medico legal officer
MANILA, Philippines — Most of the victims of the Maguindanao massacre died violently and in "extreme pain," according to a medico-legal officer.
Dr. Dean Cabrera, a medico-legal officer based in Camp Crame, told the Quezon City Regional Trial Court said he conducted the autopsy on the 12 of the carnage at funeral homes in Coronadal City on Nov. 25, 2009, two days after the incident.
As of this posting, Cabrera described and enumerated the number of injuries on the 7th victim--Romeo Cabillo-- he examined.
During his testimony, Cabrera said Cabillo's cadaver bore 28 gunshot wounds, seven of which were fatal.
He also noted that there were 10 gunshot wounds concentrated on a part of the victim's body.
Two contusions were also noted on the body, Cabrera said.
Earlier, Cabrera recalled the injuries of victims Lea Dalmacio, Rahima Palawan, Francisco Subang Jr., Jephon Cadagdagan, Noel Decena, and Delbert Arriola.
Most of the victims were lying on the ground when they were riddled with bullets by the gunmen, allegedly led by former Datu Unsay mayor Andal Ampatuan Jr.
The victims were the group of media people who joined the Mangudadatu convoy on Nov. 23, 2009.
The convoy was eventually blocked at a checkpoint in Sitio Malatin, Brgy. Salman, Ampatuan, Maguindanao.
A total of 58 people were killed during the carnage.
