MANILA, Philippines – Despite the delays and election-related violence, the recent Barangay and Sanguniang Kabataan Elections were generally peaceful unlike in 2007. Out of the country's 42,025 total barangays, only 1,732 or 4.12% failed to hold polls due to the delay in the delivery of election paraphernalia, some election-related violence and the aftermath of typhoon "Juan." According to Teopisto Elnas, director of the Commission on Elections' barangay department, all these barangays, except those severely affected by typhoon Juan, will conduct elections today and tomorrow.
