MANILA, Philippines — Interior and Local Government Secretary Jesse Robredo and Health Secretary Enrique Ona led the cleanup activity in Brgy. Culiat, Quezon City this morning in line with the government's anti-dengue crusade.
Along with members of the Philippine National Police, Bureau of Fire Protection and the barangay officials, the two government department heads picked up rakes and cleaned open canals along Naga Street in the Pael Estates in Brgy. Culiat.
Robredo said the cleanup activity kicks off the monthlong celebration of the 20th year of the Local Government Code of 1991, with the theme "Biyaheng PINOY: Tapat na Palakad, Bayang Maunlad."
In a directive, Robredo has called on all local government units to conduct search and destroy operations of all potential breeding places of dengue-carrying mosquitoes.
Based on the figures from Quezon City health office, Brgy. Culiat has already recorded 98 cases, three of which resulted to deaths.
In Quezon City, the Department of Health has recorded 2,435 dengue cases, with 31 deaths.
