The sorry state of Zamboanga evacuees in evacuation camps are a reality the victims have to face. Many complain that the government has done little for them in terms of relief needed and the expected funds to be given for housing. But to rise above the situation, the victims themselves must not depend solely on dole-out, as the government cannot do it alone. Remember, there are thousands of victims, each who have their own needs and wants. The people must find ways to help them go through the nightmare. As the evacuation centers are dirty, cramped and that 168 lives have already been claimed by certain infectious diseases, they should clean their own surroundings, follow proper hygiene and sanitation even if they have to make do with what is there.
Young children succumb to diseases because they have weak resistance. Their parents should give them proper care and not let them just roam around. The government continues to help them and there are still donations that are funnelled to them. Temporary shelters are to be built for them according to the government, to improve their living conditions. To get out of the situation, the people must be willing and enthusiastic partners of those who assist and give them help rather than balk and complain. All indications are present to help them, what seems to be lacking is their trust towards the government. In fact, they must join hands with the government, the military and other agencies concerned to speed up their recovery.
