Peace for unity

The Philippine Star

The atrocities launched by the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF) in many remote provinces in Maguindanao, Sultan Kudarat and North Cotabato were met by a calibrated police action by the military. The military launched the operation to support the Philippine National Police which was serving warrants of arrests to lawless elements, to members of the BIFF who are terrorizing these places ever since. This is a good move on the part of the military as the group may stage attacks, which may or maybe related to the signing of the recent peace accord.

It cannot be said that there will be no groups other than Nur Misuari’s MNLF, who would try to align with the MNLF to create trouble following the peace process. The activities of these groups must be checked and monitored so that violence will be prevented and the safety of the public assured.

The ongoing clashes with the BIFF will definitely be contained by government troops who have committed themselves to subdue all enemies of democracy. It is also good to note that some MNLF commanders have commended the peace signing and the government welcomes all who want to join the move to unite for peace. – Jansen B.
