Let us put the elections behind us

The Philippine Star

Consumer advocate and Govt Watch chair Raul T. Concepcion believes that P-Noy’s greatest legacy — a reformed electoral process — is now being put in place. Despite misgivings and doubts raised by certain parties with regards the credibility of some of the results of the May mid term elections, Concepcion believes that the reforms instituted by P-Noy and Chairman Brilliantes played a significant part in making the elections relatively peaceful, orderly and with fast results.

“People have generally accepted the results of the May 13 elections and there is not much protest from losing candidates unlike in the past,” Concepcion observed. However, Concepcion is urging the Comelec to answer criticisms raised especially about the PCOS machines so that remaining doubts are put to rest.

“What is more important now is that P-Noy has gotten the friendly Legislature that he wished for. Hopefully this will mean that whatever gains the economy is enjoying will finally trickle down to the vast majority of our countrymen,”Concepcion added.

“The newly elected officials must hit the ground running. The Philippines is experiencing rapid economic growth and increasing global competitiveness. I urge P-Noy and our elected lawmakers to make the most of the remaining three years of this administration and come up with legislation that will take advantage of the upswing in our economy so that growth is sustained, lives are improved and poverty is reduced,” Concepcion stressed. — GOV’T WATCH
