CJ Corona should explain BGEI proceeds
The prosecution is on the right track in exploring the possibility of asking the Senate impeachment court to subpoena a bank deposit account of Cristina Corona, wife of Chief Justice Renato Corona.
If this comes to pass, then we will know whether CJ Corona told the truth when he claimed that the three peso accounts with PSBank which he withdrew on the day he was impeached on December is money held in trust for the sale of property of Basa-Guidote Enterprises, Inc. (BGEI) or not.
From the evidence presented so far at the impeachment trial, Cristina Corona appears to have been deeply involved in husband Renato’s financial transactions. If we recall, she was authorized by Renato to withdraw some P31 million in three PSBank accounts on the very day that he was impeached by the House. The defense says it’s BGEI money, but why was it in his personal accounts? Besides, if it’s BGEI money, why would it be in Corona’s personal account, not in a BGEI corporate account?
Do we have here a modern-day version of Bonnie and Clyde, Philippine style?
