Character and integrity

- Jason Trillio, Baguio City -

MANILA, Philippines - I am in complete agreement with Jose C. Sison (March 12, “Messy”) when he said that “there is much to be desired in the character and integrity of people in the judiciary including the Chief Magistrate.”

Corona’s behavior since the very start of his impeachment has been to brand everyone who speaks ill of him as “liars”. Is this proper behavior of a Chief Justice who should be a paragon of virtue and integrity? If people point out his mistakes, it is for a good reason.

I concur with Atty. Sison that Corona, with his background, does not squarely fit into the honorable and prestigious position he now holds, and that there are others who may really be more qualified.

Corona does not want to believe that he is the least trusted among the top officials of the government with his negative 15 trust rating. That could prove to be his undoing. He goes to media offices to try to defend himself, but all he does is to bring himself down the gutter with his intemperate language and unstatesmanlike demeanor.

Corona shouldn’t really blame anyone but himself for the big mess he is now in.
