Letters to the Editor

Can our Congressmen finally walk their talk?

-

Can Congress pass House Bill 6035, The Affordable Medicine Bill?

This was the challenge posed by the undersigned in an article that was published in a major daily on June 5, 2007. I then urged our Congressmen, for the sake of our country and our people to give priority to passing the bill before the adjournment of the 13th Congress. A Congressman I met two days before the adjournment gave me the assurance  that the bill will be passed if there is a quorum. Unfortunately, majority of our representatives did not attend the session.  Had the bill been passed, it would have been one of the few legacies of the 13th Congress.

Last Sunday, I chanced upon the same congressman. I shared with him my adverse concerns regarding the likelihood that the new bill may not be passed within the next two days as announced by Speaker Jose de Venecia last week.

Once again, I am urging them to finally pass the new and revised version which is now House Bill 0001, the first bill filed on the first day of the 14th Congress. The undersigned had also an article about this subject. Entitled ‘People’s interests?” it was published in a major newspaper on July 29, 2007.

May our present crop of congressmen of the 14th Congress give true meaning to their honorific titles and that they now walk their talk.   JERRY A. QUIBILAN, Crusaders for Peace, Prosperity,  Unity and Love
