UP graduate tops CPA exam

MANILA, Philippines - A graduate of the University of the Philippines-Diliman topped the licensure examination for certified public accountants (CPA) administered recently, the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) announced yesterday.

With a score of 96.57 percent, Raymundo Ongli led the 3,973 who passed the examination held in the cities of Manila, Baguio, Cagayan de Oro, Cebu, Davao, Iloilo and Legazpi.

The PRC noted that a total of 8,216 aspiring accountants took the examination, but less than half of them passed.

Alvin Jay Perdio of Bataan Peninsula State College in Bataan landed in second place with a grade of 96.29 percent, followed by Soladia Lui, also of UP Diliman with a score of 95.71 percent.

Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP) graduate Alvin Lagrimas and University of Santo Tomas’ Lean Jeff Magsombol shared fourth spot with 94.86 percent.

Fifth placers were Erwin Borja of UP Diliman; Andrei Nico Laguna of Bicol University and Jose Mari Punzalan of UP Diliman, with a grade of 94.71 percent, while Leslie Ann Huang of UP Diliman; Carla Vanessa Legaspi of Far Eastern University; Cliff Richard Pinkihan of Saint Mary’s University and Anna Katrina Timtim of UP Diliman all scored 94.57 percent for sixth spot.

In seventh place with 94.43 percent were Marvin Martija of San Beda College and Jeff-Mike Sule of PUP.

Another PUP graduate, John Paul de la Cruz, placed eighth with 94.29 percent.

Patricia Maita Dimayuga of UST; Ronn Michael Inacay of the University of the East Manila and Kirk Paul Sarmiento of New Era University ranked ninth with 94.14 percent.

Completing the top 10 were Myrrylyn Chrysanthemum Estomo of UP Diliman; Reena Shayne Gonzales of Holy Angel University and Stephen Ray Taguba of UST who all scored 94 percent in the examination.

Registration for the issuance of Professional Identification Card (ID) and Certificate of Registration will start on Oct. 22 until Nov. 16.

Successful examinees should personally register and sign in the Roster of Registered Professionals.

The oath taking ceremony of successful examinees in the last examination as well as previous ones who have not taken their Oath of Professional will be held before the Board on Nov. 26 at the Plenary Hall of the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC).

The Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) announces that 3,973 out of 8,216 passed the Certified Public Accountant Licensure Examination given by the Board of Accountancy in the cities of Manila, Baguio, Cagayan De Oro, Cebu, Davao, Iloilo and Legazpi this October 2010.
