MANILA, Philippines — Republic Act (RA) 11334, which converts the Marinduque State College in the municipality of Boac into the Marinduque State University, was signed into law by President Duterte on June 26.
The enabling bills were introduced at the House of Representatives and Senate by Rep. Lord Allan Velasco of the lone district of Marinduque and by Sen. Sonny Angara, respectively.
“After 67 years of existence, this higher education institution finally became a university,” MSC president and incoming first MSU president Merian Catajay-Mani said.
Mani extended her profound gratitude to both Velasco and Angara, who aggressively pushed for the bills, and to Commission on Higher Education chairman J. Prospero de Vera III for the all-out support that expedited the approval of RA 11334.
“MSU will be very visible in the community, and the academic community will partner with the leadership of the province down to the barangay level to really help work for Marinduque to be a sustainable province in agriculture and tourism,” she said.
