Deaf students learn coding at CSB

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — The De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde has launched a program enabling deaf students to learn coding and other skills related to information and communications technology.

The Benilde Deaf School (BDS), in partnership with Power Mac Center, initiated the #EveryoneCanCode project that aims to provide new learning opportunities to its students.

It involves setting up a Swift Coding Club, a Friday group activity with the objective of piquing the interest of the deaf students in applications design, web design and other related activities.

School administrators hope the activities will eventually expand the students’ options for tertiary education and career development.

For its part, Power Mac Center has provided training to BDS faculty on swift coding as well as loaned iPad tablets to the school for the use of the students.
