BACOLOD CITY, Philippines — Senate president Franklin Drilon, in his speech during the culmination of the World Teachers’ Day in Victorias City, Negros Occidental announced that the teacher’s bonus in December will increase from P13,000 to P17,000 tax-free.
Almost 8,000 teachers from Regions 6, 7 and 8 attended the event at the Victorias Sports and Amusement Center in Victorias City, Negros Occidental.
Negros Occidental Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr. and Third District Rep. Alfredo Benitez delivered their respective messages during the activity.
The DepEd national office chose Negros Occidental to host the event after the organizers scouted for a venue that could accommodate such a big crowd.
Top officials of other government agencies that are working for the welfare of the teachers also attended, including those from the Philippine Health Insurance Corp., Government Service Insurance System, and Pag-IBIG Fund.
World Teacher’s Day is celebrated to give honor and recognition to teachers.
