USTHS alumni give P6.3 M to UST scholarship

MANILA, Philippines - The University of Santo Tomas High School Alumni Alliance Foundation, Inc.-USTHS Alumni Association Inc. (USTHSAAFI-USTHSAAI) formally turned over to the UST administration scholarship funds worth P6,300,000, specifically to the UST Office for Grants, Endowments and Partnerships in Higher Education, last Sept. 25, at the UST Rector’s Board Room.

The funds represent the USTHSAA’s accumulated earnings from the annual UST High School Grand Alumni Homecomings (GAH) held every February in the last seven years, the proceeds of which have gone primarily to the alumni association’s scholarship program for financially challenged but deserving USTHS students, with preference to descendants of USTHS alumni. The USTHSAA has now entrusted its funds to the said UST office, it being best equipped to professionally manage and administer the funds, which will be utilized exclusively for the scholarship program.

Leading the ceremonial turnover to UST’s Grants Office director, Rev. Fr. Rolando Dela Rosa, OP (6th from left) was USTHSAA president Liberty Esquivias-Gamboa (5th from left). Witnessing the event for UST were Rev. Fr. Manuel Roux, O.P., UST’s vice rector for finance/treasurer (4th from left); and associate professor Marishirl Tropicales (right), USTHS principal. The other USTHS alumni in attendance were (from left) USTHSAA trustees Bert Sulat Jr. and Antonio Ereñeta; USTHSAA vice president-treasurer Quiel Delgado; USTHS GAH 2010 chairman Girme Gutierrez of Batch ’60, the USTHS class that has been the scholarship program’s top donor; and USTHSAA corporate secretary Aped Santos.
