20 universities vie in 2014 Enactus finals at SMX

MANILA, Philippines - Enactus Philippines, a member of Enactus International, a global community of students, academics and business leaders committed to using the power of entrepreneurial action to transform lives and shape a more sustainable world, is gearing up for the 2014 National Finals on July 25-26, at the SMX Convention Center, Mall of Asia Complex, Pasay City.

“We are proud to announce that 20 participating schools will showcase their social entrepreneurship projects in the national finals,” states Enactus Philippines country chairman Jose Leviste Jr. “The winning team will then go on to represent the Philippines at the 2014 Enactus World Cup set in Beijing, China on Oct. 22-24.”

The schools set to compete in the 2014 National Finals are: Adamson University, Aklan State University-Ibajay Campus, Baliuag University, Columban College, Divine Word College of Calapan, Holy Trinity College of General Santos, Lyceum Northwestern University, Mariano Marcos State University, Mindoro State College of Agriculture and Technology-Calapan City, Miriam College, Pangasinan State University-Bayambang Campus, Sultan Kudarat State University-Access Campus, Sultan Kudarat State University-Glan Campus, Sultan Kudarat State University-Isulan Campus, Sultan Kudarat State University-Tacurong Campus, Sultan Kudarat State University-Suna Campus, University of Antique, University of Luzon, University of Cebu-Banilad Campus and University of San Carlos.

 School teams had earlier participated in two levels of training at the Enactus Entrepreneurship Institute (EEI) for them to create a social enterprise that is both feasible and sustainable.  

In 2013, Mariano Marcos State University (MMSU) from Batac, Ilocos Norte represented the Philippines in the Enactus World Cup held in Cancun, Mexico. MMSU presented their team project, which featured the use of dragonfruit in a livelihood projects for Ilocos Norte.

In 2012, University of Luzon competed at the Enactus World Cup in Washington DC, USA and reached the semi-finals with their project, Sustainable Actions for Viable Enviropreneurship Plus (SAVE), which aimed to improve the lives of the marginalized farmers while promoting environmental awareness.
