MANILA, Philippines - Braving the heat every day to provide consumers with refreshing treats, street ice cream vendors are truly admirable for their hard work. But what motivates them to withstand long hours outdoors is their dream to provide their children with education and better opportunities. Understanding the need of their valued partners, Nestlé awarded educational grants to 50 deserving children of Nestlé Ice Cream vendors as part of the Nestlé Ice cream Street Selling Vendor Scholarship Program.  Scholars from different parts of the country received P10,000 worth of financial aid.

The scholars were selected based on their dedication and commitment to their studies, and their recognition of the value of their parents’ hard work. Nestlé carefully assessed each applicant to find the most deserving students.

John Miller, Chief Executive Officer of Nestlé Philippines said, “Apart from academic excellence, these students were selected as scholars because of their parents’ hard work and loyalty. They are very fortunate to have such hardworking parents, as we are lucky to have such diligent partners on the streets. ”

Nestlé believes that for a company to create value for its shareholders and enjoy long term success, it must also create value for society. Nestlé calls this Creating Shared Value (CSV), a flagship program where the Street Selling Vendor Scholarship Program falls under. The CSV initiative aims to uplift conditions of less fortunate people by engaging them into the Nestlé business, resulting in a beneficial relationship for both parties.

To further the cause, Nestlé aims to expand the number of scholarship awardees, targeting to share P1-million worth of financial grant by next year.

Nestlé Ice Cream executives, distributors, vendors, parents, and the scholars attended the awarding ceremonies last May 26, 28, 29, June 3, and June 10, 2014 in Makati City, Cebu City, Cagayan de Oro City, San Fernando City, and Iloilo City, respectively.
