BAUANG, La Union, Philippines - — Parents of Kindergarten, Grade 1, and Grade 2 pupils of Sta. Monica Elementary School in Barangay Sta Monica can breathe a sigh of relief after the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) inaugurated yesterday the school’s three-classroom building.

Lilibeth Gaydowen, NGCP information officer, said the building, which was requested by the school’s Parents-Teachers Association (PTA) in December 2014 and completed just in time for the opening of School Year 2014-2015, replaced the old school building which was declared unsafe due to its leaning and cracked walls and termite-ridden windows.

Gaydowen said NGCP shouldered the construction expenses of the building, which has a total area of 204 square meters, while the local government unit of Bauang, La Union took charge of riprapping the building’s foundation.

Pupils of Bigbiga Elementary School, also in Bauang, La Union, received school supplies in the form of bags, pencils, and notebooks as part of NGCP’s BalikEskwela program.
