DepEd administers special educational placement test today

Ghio Ong, Helen Flores - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - The Department of Education (DepEd) will administer today the special Philippine Educational Placement Test (PEPT) for free in line with the 116th celebration of Philippine Independence Day.

Patrick Salamat, communications director of DepEd, said around 24,000 out-of-school (OSY) youth nationwide will take the test.

The PEPT is an examination conducted by DepEd for the out-of-school youth in the country who wish to continue their formal education.

Its coverage is for all from Grade 1 to fourth year high school who wish to move to the next grade or year level in just one examination without undergoing the usual formal education program of the DepEd.

DepEd holds the nationwide PEPT every November in designated testing centers. For walk-in applicants, they can take the exam from January to June at the DepEd-National Educational Testing and Research Center in Pasig City.

The agency also administers the test for visually-impaired individuals.

DepEd aims to stamp out-of-school youth in the country by 2016 by offering free education through the “About-Alam Project.”

Abot Alam aims to ensure that every Filipino OSY aged 15 to 30 will have the chance to complete their basic education, the DepEd said.

Education Secretary Armin Luistro said they will try to reach out to one million OSY this year.
