MANILA, Philippines - The Commission on Human Rights (CHR) and the Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP), recently entered into an agreement regarding setting up a center for human-rights education in the country.

CHR Chairperson Loretta Ann Rosales said the Human Rights Action Center and Rule of Law (HRAC and Rol) will be put up in PUP’s 22 campuses.

Rosales said HRAC and Rol is CHR’s flagship education program that aims to mainstream human rights in the academic community, among others.

Martial Law files project manager Myrna Jimenez, took part in the signing made at the CHR Office in Quezon City.

Jimenez stressed that the signing of the memorandum of understanding (MOU) is a “milestone” as this marks the start of human-rights education mainstreaming in schools and universities.

Together with Rosales and Jimenez, signing the MOU were PUP president Emanuel De Guzman, CHR Commissioner Jose Manuel Mamaug, former PUP president Nemesio Prudente’s widow Ruth Prudente, PUP Human Rights and Gender Studies director Hilda Felipe San Gabriel, engineer Estelita Del Rosario, sister of Charlie Del Rosario, a desaparecido during the martial law and PUP Professor Antonio Umali.
