The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - The Coordinating Council of Private Educational Associations (COCOPEA) has announced that its next biennial congress will focus on enhancing the competitiveness of Filipinos, adding that its members and stakeholders could now register to attend that event.

COCOPEA is the unifying voice of private education in the Philippines with more than 2,000 institutions among its five national member-organizations: Association of Christian Schools, Colleges, and Universities (ACSCU); Catholic Educational Association of the Philippines (CEAP); Philippine Association of Colleges and Universities (PACU); Philippine Association of Private Schools, Colleges, and Universities (PAPSCU); and Technical Vocational Schools Association of the Philippines (TVSA).

The congress will be held from Feb. 20 to 21, 2014 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Ortigas, and the theme will be “Leading Philippine Education for Global Excellence.”

“Amid the imperatives of Asean 2015, Philippine private education needs to assess its role and impact on nation-building and establish its prime role in contributing to all the social and economic sectors of our country,” said Dr. Patricia Lagunda, COCOPEA chairman. With Asean 2015, Lagunda was referring to the regional plan to create an economic community in two years. Asean or Association of Southeast Asian Nations is a regional bloc of 10 countries that includes Philippines.
