MANILA, Philippines - Parents definitely want the best for their children, and that includes exploring alternative options to the traditional elementary or secondary school system. One of the fastest rising choices for alternative education is homeschooling.
To help parents know the ins and outs of educating children at home, Victory Christian International School (VCIS) will host the “Essentials of Homeschooling for Christians†seminar on Nov. 18, 8 a.m.-11 a.m., at the Tanghalang Pasigueño in Pasig City.
The seminar will be a unique opportunity for parents of homeschooled children and those who are thinking of shifting to educating children at home to get an in-depth view of the homeschooling system. It will also help guide parents in choosing the right teaching techniques to help facilitate their children’s studies.
Speaking at the event will be Esther Wilkinson, a national consultant for the Bob Jones University Press. Wilkinson’s past as a struggling student helped fuel her passion for education. She graduated with a BS degree in Elementary Education and an MA in Biblical Counseling. She has also written several educational support materials for homeschooling parents and articles on education. She is a mother of three homeschooled children and has assisted other parents in teaching.
To be discussed is “Your Most Organized Homeschool Year Ever,†a topic on the causes of disorganization in homeschooling for both parents and children and how to combat it. Wilkinson will also discuss “The Importance of a Christian Curriculum in Homeschooling†where she shares tips on how to instill a biblical worldview in education in a way that lasts. Lastly, “How the Brain Reads and Learns†will be a discussion on how brains usually process ideas and how we can use this to combat problems in attention, comprehension and retention.
