Cebuana Lhuillier launches foundation focused on education
MANILA, Philippines - In a move to further provide better education opportunity for deserving Filipino students, Cebuana Lhuillier, the Philippines’ largest pawnshop with over 1,500 branches across the country, unveils its latest corporate social responsibility venture which will provide quality learning experience for the students.
Previously known as P.J. Lhuillier Foundation, the Cebuana Lhuillier Foundation (CLF) opens its E-Learning Centre at the Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP), Sta. Mesa, Manila in partnership with the Department of Education.
The 21-unit desktop computer E-Learning Centre will serve as a hub open to all PUP students giving them access to an IT Lecture Room, an ICT Laboratory and a Multi-Media Room.
Manned by Cebuana Lhuillier personnel who will assist students in their research and studies, the E-Learning Centre, will provide a resource support for easy and conducive researching options for the CLFI scholars, PUP students and its faculty.
“May this step be a launch pad for the young minds to explore the different fields of academe, discover skills and venture out to the world of learning,†P.J. Lhuillier Inc. (PJLI) president and CEO Jean Henri Lhuillier said.
“The Foundation and all of P.J. Lhuillier, Incorporated believes that education is the key to a better future,†Lhuillier added. “This is the very reason why we, Cebuana Lhuillier Foundation have partnered with the Department of Education through the Bureau of Alternative Learning System in creating opportunities for individuals to be able to lift their families, their countries, and themselves out of poverty.â€
Meanwhile, Philippe Lhuillier, PJLI chairman and Philippine Ambassador to Portugal, assured that the turnover of the E-Learning Centre project “does not end here.â€
“We are planning to continuously install E-Learning Centres to more schools in the Philippines, especially in the areas that needed it most,†he said.
“This is what we do. Contribute to the solution,†Ambassador Lhuillier added. “The Cebuana Lhuillier Foundation aims to help our youth to be an instrument of change, and become an inspiration to others.â€
Aside from the E-Learning Centre, the CLF also enhanced its existing scholarship grants by offering a pay-it-forward approach for selected children of Cebuana Lhuillier’s loyal clients. The scholars may choose to reciprocate the grant in the form of a job or community service.
“The Cebuana Lhuillier Foundation is looking forward to provide more scholarships to deserving young individuals. I hope that with this endeavor, we can help provide better education,†Lhuillier added.
