UK awards Chevening Scholarships to 11 Filipinos
MANILA, Philippines - The British government has awarded to 11 Filipinos the prestigious Chevening Scholarships to allow them to pursue postgraduate courses at renowned educational institutions in the United Kingdom.
British Ambassador Stephen Lillie has announced this year’s recipients of the Chevening Scholarships.
They are Christine Antonio, Grace Ayson, Naealla Bainto, Ryan Edward Chua, Anna Victoria Lu, Jan Christopher Ocampo, Maria Isabel Plaza, Ira Paulo Pozon, Joyce Tan, Andrea Teran and Donn Mc Angelo Valdez.
The Filipino scholars are set to pursue studies in finance and economics, environment and sustainability, trade, health and law, the British Embassy said in a statement yesterday.
Antonio works as deputy privatization officer for legal at the Privatization and Management Office of the Department of Finance. She plans to take master’s degree in Corporate Law.
Ayson currently works as licensed compliance officer at the local UBS entities. She also plans to take Master in Corporate Law.
Bainto serves as Assistant Secretary at the Office of the Executive Secretary and she prefers to study Master of Laws.
Chua is a reporter of the ABS-CBN network and is currently covering the Senate. He intends to study Master of Philosophy in International Relations and Politics.
Lu works as Court Attorney VI with the office of Justice Jose Mendoza. He plans to study Master of Laws.
Ocampo is a senior research specialist at the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas. He will study Master of Science in Economics and International Financial Economics.
Plaza works as assistant manager in the Corporate Finance group of Maybank ATR Kim Eng Capital Partners, Inc. He would like to study Master of Science in Finance and Economics.
Pozon serves as legal counsel of Vice President Jejomar Binay. He plans to take Master of Laws, with specialization in Trade and International Law.
Tan works as an associate at the SyCip Salazar Hernandez & Gatmaitan (SyCipLaw). He will study Master of Science in Environmental Change and Management.
Teran is a supervising legislative staff officer at the Congressional Commission on Science & Technology and Engineering (COMSTE). She will pursue a Master of Science degree in Environmental Sustainability.
Valdez works as executive assistant of Health Secretary Enrique Ona. He will study Master of Science in Health Policy, Planning and Financing.
Chevening Scholarships are awarded by the British government to those who have a vision and drive to become future leaders in their chosen fields and countries, the embassy said.
