MANILA, Philippines - Founded by Dr. Sotero H. Laurel in 1966, Lyceum of the Philippines University truly embodies the essence of a world class education. In 45 years of taking the lead, LPU has been awarded the first HRM Program in the Philippines to be a Center of Excellence, the first university in the Philippines to be certified by Investors in People (IiP) and is recognized as an Autonomous University by CHED.
Just this year, Lyceum becomes the first university awarded with Full International Accreditation for both the Hotel & Restaurant Management and Tourism programs by The International Centre for Excellence in Tourism and Hospitality Education (THE-ICE). THE-ICE is an international accreditation body specifically for tourism, hospitality, events and culinary arts, and education. Today, THE-ICE has accredited member institutions all over the world including several in Europe, Asia and Australia. Students graduating from the both the LPU programs in Hotel & Restaurant Management and Tourism can be ensured that the education they have received is truly world class and is of an international caliber.
2015 is the planned launch date of the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) which aims to integrate ASEAN into a community with free movement of goods, services, skilled labor and investment capital. As Filipinos gain the opportunity to work in ASEAN countries without laborious visa requirements, Lyceans can be ensured that their hospitality skills meet the international standards required by the global workplace. English has been chosen as the common language that will be used in the AEC, and LPU is once again a step ahead in recognizing the need to ensure that graduates also have world class communication skills.
As English becomes the common language in the ASEAN region, Lyceum of the Philippines University needed an international credential that demonstrates the communication skills of its graduates.
LPU chose the Test of English for International Communication (TOEIC®) tests, which is recognized globally as the standard in workplace English. In 2011, over 6 million tests were delivered in over 120 countries which far eclipse any other international English exam. “Our work is never done ensuring that our graduates have the 21st century skills needed to compete in tomorrow’s global workforce. This endeavor (of signing an agreement with Hopkins) an important milestone to ensure that all Lyceans have the quality communication skills needed for the future,†said Dr. Conrad Iñigo, VPAA of LPU Manila. Lyceum of the Philippines University becomes the first University in the Philippines to certify the English skills of all graduates in all campuses. With the TOEIC ® Test, Lycean graduates are certified with the necessary English skills to compete in the global workplace.
