850 honor studes earn scholarship

SAN FERNANDO, Pampanga, Philippines  â€” At least 850 honor students in the province were awarded scholarship grants from the provincial government.

Governor Lilia Pineda with several local officials, led the awarding in a simple ceremony held on Thursday in Barangay Sta. Rita, Macabebe town.

The beneficiaries came from the eight municipalities in the province’s 4th district, namely Candaba, San Luis, Apalit, San Simon, Sto. Tomas, Macabebe, Masantol and Minalin.

Pineda said that those who graduated valedictorian, salutatorian, and first honorable mention will receive P20,000 every year subject to the condition that they will maintain an average of 85 percent.

Those who graduated from second honorable to third will be getting at least P10,000 per year and the rest up to 10th honor will receive at least P5,000.

Pineda said that learners under the Alternative Learning System who successfully passed the qualifying A&E examination will likewise be given scholarship grants amounting to some P10,000.

Currently, the provincial government is helping 5,000 poor but deserving students through financial assistance to augment on their school expenses.

The scholarship grant is in accordance with ordinance numbers 484 and 493 institutionalizing the education financial assistance program of the province passed by the Sangguniang Panlalawigan in 2011.

The provincial government is also extending its scholarship program to the needy but deserving high school graduates identified by the barangay officials and substantially meet the qualification standards.
