UK new SEAMEO member
HANOI, Vietnam — The United Kingdom is the latest non-Association of South East Asian Nations (ASEAN) country to gain membership into the South East Asian Ministers of Education Organization (SEAMEO).
The SEAMEO Council had approved the accession of United Kingdom as an associate member-country at the pre-opening activities of the 47th SEAMEO Council Conference, at the Daewoo Hotel Hanoi recently.
The UK is the 8th associate member country in the SEAMEO, joining Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, and Spain.
SEAMEO associate member-countries have provided great financial and technical contributions and expertise to the development of education, science and culture of the Southeast Asian countries through the mandate of 21 SEAMEO Regional Centers.
The SEAMEO has also affiliate membership for private or other organizations such as the British Council, the European Union.
