7 academic journals strengthen Ateneo’s research

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Understanding the pivotal role of research in an academic institution, the Ateneo de Manila University revs up its research by publishing 7 academic journals in various topics.

The seven academic journals are Asia perspectives in the Arts and Humanities, a forum of dialogue between scholars and creative artists in the Philippines and other countries in Asia; Budi: A Journal of ideas and Culture encourages creative and critical contemporary interpretations of the history of ideas and theoretical constructions; Kritika Kultura is the only humanities journal in the Philippines indexed in Thomson Reuters that attempts to address relevant matters within the disciplines of language and literary/cultural studies; Landas: Journal of Loyola School of Theology stimulates reflection, facilitates theological research and confronts contemporary concerns for greater understanding and life enrichment; and Philippine Studies: Historical and Ethnographic Viewpoints is the longest running Ateneo journal which for six decades, has been consistently publishing materials on the history of the Philippines and its people, both in the homeland and overseas.

At the start of the school year, Ateneo president Fr Jett Villarin emphasized the pivotal role of research in the strategic thrusts of the institution. Guided by its strategic thrusts, the university established its research and creative work agenda for 2011 to 2017. The Office of the Associate Dean for Research and Creative Work (OADRCW) teamed up with the editors of the seven Loyola Schools journals to boost research productivity and ensure sustainability. Seminars on journal management and research ethics were also conducted for competency enrichment.

In 2013, more journals are scheduled to be released: The Journal of Management for Global Sustainability which aims to focus on how enterprises can achieve sustainability through ways that are socially just an spiritually whole; and Social Transformations: Journal of the Global South which hopes to address issues of third-world or developing countries, currently known as the global south. Meetings with the world’s leading journal publishers are in place to explore mutually-beneficial partnerships.

The OADRCW encourages institutions and individuals throughout the Philippines and worldwide to subscribe and contribute articles to the Ateneo journals. For inquiries, call 4266001 loc. 5048 or email [email protected]
