Police dependents receive scholarships

CAMP FLORENDO, La Union, Philippines — Seven police dependents received their scholarship grants from the Saint John Bosco College of Northern Luzon (SJBCNL) on July 9 in a simple ceremony at the grandstand here, said P/Chief Supt. Franklin Jesus Bucayu, regional director of the Police Regional Office 1(PRO1).

San Fernando City Councilor Rodolfo Abat, president and chairman of the board of trustees of SJBCNL who was the guest of honor and speaker, conferred the scholarship to the seven grantees.

The grantees are Evan Kyle Milo, Virgilio Corpus Jr., Ruby Jane Martinez, Jestoni Valdez, Jessa Espino, Samantha Corpuz and Benjie Boy Verdadero.

The seven are the first batch of recipients of the Tertiary Scholarship Program of SJBCNL and PRO1 dubbed as “Gawad Bosconian Para sa Kapulisan ng Region 1.”

Bucayu said the scholars are all dependents of policemen assigned within the region and they are enrolled at SJBCNL for this school year wherein four (4) of them are taking up Bachelor of Science in Criminology and the other are taking up BS Computer Science course.

A memorandum of agreement (MOA) was signed by SJBCNL and PRO1 to cater all qualified dependents of uniformed and non-uniformed personnel of PNP in Region 1.

“We are very thankful to the leadership of SJBCNL for their partnership in this undertaking as one way of enhancing the morale and welfare of police force aligned with the Chief PNP, Police Director General Nicanor Bartolome’s 10 point action plan,” said Bucayu.

The SJBCNL approved free full tuition of qualified scholars for the duration of four years with a maintaining average grade of 85% and it applies only to criminology and computer science courses.
