DLSU-D forms biggest human Lasallian Star
DASMARIÑAS CITY, Cavite, Philippines — Bigger, better possibilities were created when De La Salle University-Dasmariñas (DLSU-D) and De La Salle Health Sciences Institute (DLS HSI) formed the biggest Human Lasallian Star on June 17, 2012 at DLSU-D Grandstand. Around 25,000 Lasallians and supporters of La Salle became part of the star and contributed to reaching the target of raising P2.5 million for the scholarship fund.
In a bid to continue the legacy of the founder, St. John Baptist de La Salle, the registration proceeds and pledges will go to the scholarship fund to help financially-challenged students gain access to quality Lasallian education.
The star formation is part of the closing ceremonies of the centennial celebration of the Lasallian presence in the Philippines. It also signalled the opening of the upcoming Jubilee celebration of DLSU-D’s 25th year as a Lasallian institution.
The star formation also paved the way for the first Green and White Day in the history of Cavite. Gov. Juanito Victor “Jonvic” Remulla Jr. officially announced June 17 as a Green and White Day in recognition of the contributions of DLSU-D and DLS HSI to the development of the province of Cavite. Remulla’s family was also present to show their support to the Lasallians’ noble cause. De La Salle Brothers coming all the way from France, USA, and other countries also formed the star with DLSU-D and DLS HSI.
The formation was hosted by DLSU-Manila alumnus RJ Ledesma, DLSU-D student Jodi Sta. Maria, DLSU-D alumni and Yes FM DJs Mark Jumel (Chico Loco) and Maria Camille Icasiano (Maria Maldita).
DLSU-D’s initiative inspired other La Salle schools in the Philippines and 30 other countries across the globe to form their own Human Star.
This year, the Human Lasallian Star formed is the biggest, brightest, and boldest star to date. With around 25,000 participants, the formation helped raise the targeted P2.5 million for the scholarship fund. Many supporters pledged more than the minimum registration fee of P100 and members of the community invited people to support the undertaking.
The star formation is just one of the many efforts DLSU-D and the rest of the Lasallian community are making to augment the scholarship funds. DLSU-D is aggressive in coming up with more projects that will help raise funds for future generations of Lasallian scholars. DLSU-D does not stop at creating possibilities. DLSU-D helps make things happen.
