No class suspension on Feb 24, 27
MANILA, Philippines - The Department of Education (DepEd) will not suspend classes on Feb. 24 or 27 to give way to the celebration of the 1986 EDSA People Power revolt that ended the 20-year regime of the late deposed president Ferdinand Marcos and brought the late president and mother of the incumbent President Benigno Aquino III, into power.
Kenneth Tirado, DepEd Communications Unit director, said that there has been no announcement from Malacanang declaring the said days as national holidays. Tirado pointed out that the EDSA People Power anniversary was also on Feb. 25, which falls on a Saturday this yea.
Tirado said that Education Secretary Armin Luistro was keen on schools observing the required number of 220 school days, and a mandatory 180 actual teaching-learning days, and this was already proving to be a difficult task especially for schools in regions affected by floods and other calamities.
