MANILA, Philippines - The American Chamber of Commerce of the Philippines, Inc. (AmCham), through its corporate social responsibility arm, the American Chamber Foundation, announced the start of the nationwide search for student participants of its Business Orientation Program 2012 (BOP 2012) on April 14 to 21, 2012.
The AmCham BOP 2012 offers 30 of the Philippines’ best of the best undergraduate students the opportunity to gain new understanding of key global business and economic issues through exclusive company visits and in-depth discussions with senior executives of local multinational companies. Filipino students who are entering their senior year in school year 2012-2013 are eligible to join the program, free of charge. They must, however, be enrolled in a business or a business-related course, possess above-average academic record and leadership skills, and have excellent English proficiency to qualify for the AmCham BOP 2012. Universities and colleges across the Philippines, through an appointed faculty member (dean or program director), must nominate three to five students on or before Dec. 9, 2011. More information about the program can be accessed via http://bestmeetsthebest.blogspot.com/.
“For 10 years now, the AmCham Business Orientation Program has served as a venue for students to exchange ideas and harness their analytical and problem-solving skills in the context of a real-life business environment,” said Chris Stolk, chairman of the AmCham BOP 2012 committee. He added, “This program exposes the participants to various critical business functions of multinational companies, further enhancing the education they are attaining from their respective universities or colleges.”
In addition to site tours and talks, students will be divided into teams to work on a specific business project that will be presented at the end of the AmCham BOP 2012 week. A panel consisting of the AmCham BOP committee members and sponsor-companies will choose the top three business projects and the best presenter. Winners will be awarded during the closing dinner on April 21, 2012.
AmCham and the sponsor-companies will provide the students with accommodations, transportation and meals throughout the week-long activity. The AmCham BOP 2012 is co-sponsored by Peregrine Development International, Inc., and Chevron Philippines, Inc. This program is also supported by other multinational companies such as Mead Johnson Nutrition, Thomson Reuters, John Clements Consultants, Inc., Convergys Corp. and Sunpower Manufacturing.
