Giordano helps Mindanao school children learn more
SURIGAO DEL NORTE, Philippines — Who would have known that a clothing store could bring joy to children in other ways besides selling stylish and in-season clothing and apparel?
Giordano, the leading quality brand for basics wear, brings the culmination of its Think of the Kids, Be the Change campaign with the distribution of satellite dish systems to four select schools in Mindanao.
In partnership with Knowledge Channel Foundation, Inc., Giordano gave educational equipment to four schools in Mindanao — Sayak Elementary School, Esperanze Elementary School, Del Carmen Elementary School and Numancia Elementary School.
“We are happy to have been chosen by Giordano and Knowledge Channel Foundation, as receivers of the satellite dish systems. This is going to be the start of a better academic future for the students of these four schools,” said Surigao del Norte Governor Soledad Matugas.
Giordano’s Think of the Kids, Be the Change campaign, which started November 2010, aims to improve the quality of education in select schools in Mindanao.
In Mindanao, Siargao is the first in the region to have the Knowledge Channel Program, according to Del Carmen Mayor Alfredo Matugas Coro II. Because of the project, he said the enrolment rate of the schools in participating communities has increased while reported class absences have decreased.
“Giordano Philippines would like quality education to be more accessible, especially to the youth in Mindanao,” said Beatrice Lim, Giordano’s marketing head.
“This is our way of giving back to the community and making more than 2,000 kids happy this Christmas. We hope that these equipment and technology will allow for easier and better learning for the kids,” she said.
