SM scholarship program application for school year 2012-2013 now open

MANILA, Philippines - The SM Scholarship Program established in 1993 is now accepting applicants for SY 2012-2013. Admission to the program is open to graduating students or graduates of public high schools located in the National Capital Region; Batangas, Benguet, Bulacan, Camarines Sur, Cavite, Laguna, Pampanga, Pangasinan, Quezon, Rizal, Tarlac, and Zambales in Luzon; Cebu, Iloilo and Negros Occidental in Visayas; and Davao, General Santos, and Misamis Oriental in Mindanao. Applicants must have a fourth year weighted average of at least 88% in the second or third grading period. They should belong to families whose annual household income is at most P150,000.

Scholars may enroll in any of the following courses leading to a baccalaureate degree: Computer Science; Information Technology; Information Management; Electronics and Communications Engineering; Computer Engineering; Civil Engineering; Electrical Engineering; Mechanical Engineering; Elementary Education; Secondary Education major in Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics or English; Accountancy; and Business Administration major in Accountancy.

SM Foundation has 1,100 scholars every year enrolled in 70 partner schools throughout the country. While bulk of the scholars are financed by the Foundation there are scholars that are sponsored by partners of the Foundation but whose scholarships are managed by the Foundation. Scholars are encouraged to attend schools/universities nearest their residence. In Metro Manila scholars may enroll at Adamson University, Asia Pacific College, Far Eastern University, FEU-East Asia College, Jose Rizal University, National University, Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Marikina, Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila, Philippine Normal University, Philippine School of Business Administration, University of the East (Caloocan and Manila), and University of the Philippines (Diliman and Manila).

In Luzon, partner schools are St. Louis University, University of the Philippines-Baguio, and University of the Cordilleras (Baguio); Lyceum Northern Luzon, Lyceum Northwestern, and Pangasinan State University (Pangasinan); Angeles University Foundation, Holy Angel University and University of Assumption (Pampanga); Baliuag University, Bulacan State University and Meycauayan College (Bulacan); University of Perpetual Help-Biñan, St. Michael’s College of Laguna, La Consolacion College-Biñan, Laguna College of Business & Arts, University of Perpetual Help-Calamba, and University of the Philippines - Los Baños (Laguna); Cavite State University, De la Salle Dasmariñas, National College of Science and Technology, San Sebastian College, Recoletos-, and Rogationist College (Cavite); Batangas State University- Main, Nasugbu & Lipa, University of Batangas, De La Salle, Lipa City Colleges, and First Asia Institute of Technology and Humanities (Batangas); Manuel Enverga University Foundation and Southern Luzon State University (Quezon); and Ateneo de Naga, Naga College Foundation, University of Nueva Caceres and Universidad de Sta. Isabel (Camarines Sur).

Cebu Institute of Technology, Cebu Normal University , University of Cebu ( Main , Banilad, Lapu-Lapu. & Mandaue), University of San Carlos, UP Visayas (Cebu College-Lahug), and University of San Jose Recoletos (Cebu); Central Philippine University, University of the Visayas (UP-Vis), University of San Agustin, Western Institute of Technology, and West Visayas State University (Iloilo); Colegio San Agustin, Technological University of the Philippines Visayas, University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos, and University of St. La Salle (Bacolod) make up the roster of partner schools in Visayas while in Mindanao, Ateneo de Davao University, Philippine Women’s University, Davao, University of Mindanao, University of the Philippines, Mindanao, University of South Eastern Philippines, and University of Immaculate Concepcion (Davao); Cagayan Capitol college, Liceo de Cagayan, Xavier University, and Mindanao University of Science and Technology (Cagayan de Oro); and Mindanao State University and Notre Dame of Dadiangas University (General Santos) complete the list.

Aside from tuition fees, SM Foundation will shoulder the expenses for books, transportation, board and lodging of the scholars. Scholars will also be given the opportunity to work in SM Supermalls, Department Stores, Supermarkets, Hypermarkets, or in Save More branches during their semestral or Christmas break to enable the scholars to earn.

Application forms are available at all Customer Service Counters of SM Supermalls, SM Department Stores, SM Supermarkets, SM Hypermarkets, and Save More. Accomplished forms should be submitted on or before December 20. Qualified applicants will undergo rigid screening and interview.
