At DPS teachers also become students
MANILA, Philippines - At the Diliman Preparatory School (DPS), one of the country’s leading educational institutions, the teachers also become students to learn more about their craft and to be updated on developments and innovations in the field of education.
The faculty had a two-day Development Workshop sponsored by Epip Academy International on May 19 and 30 at the DPS auditorium. The seminar covered topics related to teaching and learning, and communication skills.
The teachers were given an update on Pedagogical Trends and Perspectives to set the tone for their learning. They learned “The Different Ways of Being Smart: Multiple Intelligence and Why it Matters,” which is becoming popular these days due to the acknowledgment of children’s differences. Armed with this knowledge, the teachers also underwent training in “Creative Learning in the Classroom” to suit the different needs of the learners.
Language Arts was given emphasis in the two-part workshop titled “Integration of the Language Arts and Teacher Training: An Examination of Speech Communication Instruction in English Classrooms.”
DPS has partnered with the Edulynx English Proficiency Intervention Program (ePIP) to address the rising concern about English in the country. ePIP is an intervention program that allows English learners to individually and interactively learn through an interactive, online, multi-sensory program that is fun and easy to use. ePIP is the only language learning technology in the market that provides complete curriculum and content-based training that can be applied to any number of classes, students, and levels. It provides an educational platform that can be accessed by students both at home and in school, giving them maximum exposure to correct English wherever they are.
Former Senator Nikki Coseteng, DPS President, says that being proficient in a language other than one’s own results in better performance in school, at work and even among social relations and events. She adds that most educational materials are written in English and proficiency in English gives students a big advantage in research, comprehension and expressing one’s self.
