MANILA, Philippines - Xavier School marked the official start of construction in the new campus in Nuvali, Calamba, Laguna, on Dec. 6, 2010. School officials and members of the development team participated in the simple ceremony that included the blessing of the first column fittings and the initial concrete pouring for the primary school building and grade school gym, the first two facilities expected to be completed by June this year.
The new campus will rise on a 15-hectare property donated by Aurora Properties, Inc. (API), and is located in Nuvali, the eco-community development of Ayala Land. Aside from the property, API donated a sizeable seed fund for land development and engineering. This generous financial support, in addition to those from several major benefactors, provides Xavier School the opportunity to extend its education ministry to the burgeoning Chinese-Filipino communities south of Metro Manila.
The new school will offer the same curriculum of Xavier School in San Juan, including the core Chinese language program and Jesuit formation. It will be different in two important aspects. “Unlike the present school, Xavier School Nuvali will accept both boys and girls,” stated Fr. Johnny Go, SJ, Xavier School president, “but will be co-divisional to address their unique formative needs.” Moreover, the new school has set an ambitious target of 25 percent student population on scholarship. “We will not only be helping more deserving students, but the culture of the school as a whole will also be enhanced to one that is more inclusive and reflective of society.”
Aside from the two facilities currently under construction, the first phase of development will also include the student center, housing the library and multi-purpose hall, and the main chapel. Both will be finished in time for the planned school opening by June 2012. Classes for Kinder, Grade 1, Grade 2 and High 1 levels will be opened for the initial school year.
