MANILA, Philippines - More than the loud beating of the drums and the energized crowd waiting to hear their bets rule the stage, the “Tunog Kabataan para sa Kalikasan,” proved to be a perfect vehicle for a bigger cause. The seven bands that battled it out with their musical supremacy helped paved the way to reiterate, if not instill, the importance of a greener environment. The event, which was held on Dec. 18, 2010 at the Music Bar in Greenhills, served as the culminating affair for the University for 2010 as it has organized various environment-friendly activities such as the fashion show held on January 26 of which part of the proceeds went to the rehabilitation of the La Mesa Watershed in Quezon City and the tree planting activity at the reserve that followed thereafter. Organized by Feati University and Feati United Custom Administration Society (UCAS), and in co-production with TV Juan, the event was also attended by students from Fatima University, Manila Business College, Asian Institute of Maritime Studies, Manuel L. Quezon University, Unibersidad de Manila and Manila Central University. “This is another Feati way of stepping up to the call for the rehabilitation and preservation of our natural resources before the situation worsens. Students from various colleges and universities were encouraged to do their share in taking care of the environment,” said Melanie Florentino, head of Feati Events & Promotions. Prophecy from Our Lady of Fatima University, with their original composition “Don’t Be Afraid, a cover of “Broken Wings,” took home the grand trophy, a TV Juan contract and P10,000. The band also got the Best MTV award, with an additional P3,000 from JobsDB. Manila Business College’s Royal Tycoons took home P8,000 while Asian Institute of Maritime Studies’ Banana Type pocketed the P3,000 prize. Apart from cash, all winners were handed with trophies. Other bands that joined the competition were Arikizonian (Manuel L Quezon University), False Eye (Unibersidad De Manila), Lovers and Friends (Manila Central University), and Feati’s very own, Sabit. The event was made possible with the support of UR 105.9FM as the official radio partner, Binalot, Akrho Feati University Alumni-USA Chapter, Suarez & Sons, Margie Segovia, JobsDB Philippines, Musica Bar, The Bar and The Philippine STAR.
