MANILA, Philippines - The Children’s Library (TCL), a project of the Gokongwei Brothers Foundation and Robinsons Land, recently donated 2,000 books to Gawad Kalinga (GK) Community Development Foundation, Inc.’s Learning Center in Taguig City. The initiative echoes the Gokongwei group’s continuous commitment to uplift the lives of Filipinos through education.
“Since the CSR efforts of JG Summit Holdings are geared towards empowering young minds, we spearheaded this project to help espouse the habit of continuous reading to kids. We want to inculcate the value of education at a young age,” says Felix Dan Lopez, corporate human resources manager of JG Summit Holdings, Inc. (JGSHI). Representatives of JGSHI and the TCL staff turned over the books to students from GK’s Sibol School, which educates children three to six years old for free.
“The books will have a huge impact in the education of these kids. One of Gawad Kalinga’s thrust is excellence in education and the books are a big factor – especially in this formative stage of their lives…,” shares Raul Ramiterre, child and youth development head of GK for Taguig, Pasay, Makati and Manila.
Aside from GK, TCL also donated books to the Gokongwei Brothers Foundation Library in Pasig City, Imus Municipal Public Library in Cavite, and Jaime Cardinal Sin Village Library in Sta. Ana, Manila. TCL corners are housed in both San Juan and Pasig public libraries.
