MANILA, Philippines - Pulong Sta. Cruz Elementary School (PSCES) topped the 2010 National Achievement Test (NAT), ranking first among all public schools in the City of Santa Rosa in Laguna. PSCES Grade VI student Mary Grace Valdez also landed in the NAT Top 10 scorers this year.
According to the Santa Rosa City Schools Division of the Department of Education (DepEd), PSCES acquired an overall mean percentage score of 73.11 in subjects that included Filipino, Mathematics, English, Science, and HEKASI (Heograpiya Kasaysayan Sibika).
PSCES is an adopted school of Toyota Motor Philippines Foundation (TMPF) under the Adopt-a-School program of the Department of Education. Launched in 1998, the program aims to encourage private companies to assist in the delivery of better quality education to public schools in the country.
TMPF has continuously supported the academic programs of PSCES by sending teachers to advanced learning seminars and training workshops, providing lesson guides for teachers, as well as sponsoring Quiz Bee competitions and educational tours for student achievers.
This year’s performance in the NAT is the latest among the school’s accomplishments. The PSCES students’ aptitude in various subjects has improved significantly. “The assistance of Toyota through TMPF has been a very, very big help for us,” said Dr. Lilian Apuada, principal of PSCES.
