MANILA, Philippines - Exciting times are ahead for Assumption College as another dedicated educator assumes leadership of the country’s pioneering progressive school for women. The institution has appointed Sr. Anna Carmela Pesongco of the Religious of the Assumption (R.A.) as eighth president, replacing Sr. Mary Gertrude Borres R.A. who held the position for five years. Sr. Anna is expected to be a strong forces in upholding the Assumption education philosophy — academic excellence, values formation and social responsibility.
In the Assumption community, Sr. Anna is known as a restructuring leader. She has played a huge role in the holistic development and transformation efforts of the various campuses. She also created effective force norms and spearheaded different interactive activities to strengthen the Assumption community.
Prior to her new appointment, Sr. Anna served as the dean for the Assumption San Lorenzo, Makati Campus. She has a doctorate degree in Education, major in Educational Management. She received the Most Outstanding Female Private School Principal award given by the Department of Education in 2001. She served as principal for the Antipolo campus from 1989 to 1994 and became principal of Assumption Iloilo from 1995 to 2000.
Bringing with her 26 years of teaching experience, Sr. Anna accepted the five-year post in rites held recently at the Our Lady of the Assumption Chapel in San Lorenzo, Makati, celebrated by Msgr. Joemarie Delgado, Chaplain of the Assumption Iloilo community, and Fr. Edwin Soliva, SDB Chaplain of the Assumption San Lorenzo community. She took her oath under Sr. Ma. Josefina Matias R.A., Assumption College’s provincial superior.
