MMLDC recognized as HERO partner

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - The Meralco Development Center (MMLDC) has been recognized by the Philippine College of Physicians (PCP) as its HERO partner with a special Presidential Award. The Health Education Reform Act (HERO) mandates the Department of Education to improve health education in public elementary and high schools. Its objective is to teach children healthy practices to avoid the top 10 diseases in the country.

MMLDC has been facilitating the translation of the research work done by PCPís specialists into teaching materials. MMLDC associate director for academic services, Amor Curaming is the project manager of HERO.

The HERO materials will be pilot-tested in 10 public schools this school year 2010-2011. Teacher training sessions are being implemented this May in MMLDC. The PCP will also conduct medical missions in these schools early this month to set a baseline health profile of students. MMLDC will likewise conduct a health and knowledge baseline. Improvements in these areas will be monitored during the school year. If successful, the HERO materials will be endorsed to DepEd for national implementation starting SY 2011ñ2012.

For inquires on MMLDCís academic programs, please call 6328111 loc. 750/753 or e-mail: [email protected] or [email protected], or visit www.mmldc.org. MMLDC, your one-stop training shop, is located along Sumulong Highway in Antipolo, just one hour drive from Makati and 45 minutes from Quezon City.
