MANILA, Philippines - The University of the East will confer on its graduation candidates their respective college degrees at the UE Manila’s 62nd and UE Caloocan’s 32nd yearend commencement rites tomorrow, April 23, at the Plenary Hall of the Philippine International Convention Center, CCP Complex, Pasay City.
Highlighting the UE yearend commencement rites, scheduled at 9 a.m. for the UE Manila and 2 p.m. for the UE Caloocan, is the awarding of Latin honors, Outstanding Graduate Awards, Leadership Awards and College Distinguished Awards.
After the presentation of graduation candidates by the respective college deans, the candidates will be conferred their respective degrees by UE academic officers led by UE president and chief academic officer Dr. Ester Garcia.
The UE commencement guest speakers, both UE distinguished alumni-achievers are Court of Appeals Associate Justice Normandie Pizarro for UE Manila’s rites and Philippine Ambassador to Singapore Minda Calaguian-Cruz for UE Caloocan’s rites. Pizarro is a 1974 Ll.B. and 1969 AB Political Science graduate while Cruz is a 1973 AB Political Science graduate. Pizarro and Cruz will be presented to the audience, respectively, by UE College of Law dean Amado Valdez and by UE Caloocan College of Arts and Sciences dean Eleanor Javier.
As of press time, UE Manila graduation candidates totaled 824 - from the Graduate School, Colleges of Law, Dentistry, Arts and Sciences, Business Administration, Computer Studies and Systems, Education, and Engineering; for UE Caloocan, the tally is 431 candidates from the Colleges of Arts and Sciences, Business Administration, Engineering and Fine Arts.
The yearend graduation candidates’ summa cum laude honorees are Aisler Ibana, BS Biology, and Blessie Prieto, BS Psychology, UE Manila’s College of Arts and Sciences (UE CAS).
Ibana, who is the Outstanding Graduate awardee, leads this year’s awardees. The Leadership awardees for men: Allen S. Mercado (UE Manila CAS) and Wilfredo P. Tablante (UE Caloocan College of Business Administration (CBA)), they are both Magna Cum Laude; the Leadership awardees for women: Maria Iraliz E. Nool, Magna Cum Laude (UE Manila CAS) and Michelle E. Sy Juco (UE Caloocan CBA); the College Distinguished Graduates awardees are: Jorlett L. Bibangco, Valedictorian (Law), Ricca Mae V. Roco, Magna Cum Laude (Dentistry), Jerwin J. Arabia, Magna Cum Laude (UE Manila CBA), and Melvin P. Geremillo, Magna Cum Laude (Computer Studies and Systems).
The UE baccalaureate rites were held yesterday at the UE Manila Conference Hall and the UE Caloocan Field, respectively.
