TIPQC new CHED Center of Development in Civil Engineering
MANILA, Philippines - The Technological Institute of the Philippines-Quezon City (TIPQC) bags a new Commission on Higher Education (CHED) Center of Development (COD) in Civil Engineering (CE).
This is the third COD for TIPQC, having been earlier awarded a COD in Information Technology Education and a COD in Computer Engineering.
The selection of TIPQC as a Center of Development was based on the results of the verification and deliberation conducted by the COD evaluators and the recommendation of the Technical Panel for Engineering and Technology (TPET).
According to CHED Office of Programs and Standards Director IV, Dr. Felizardo Francisco (2010), “…only 11 out of the 22 applications qualified for COD in Civil Engineering...” Out of the 11 new CODs in the entire country, only four are located in the National Capital Region, namely, the Technological Institute of the Philippines–Quezon City (TIPQC), De La Salle University, Mapua Institute of Technology, and University of Santo Tomas.
In December 2009, the CHED awarded TIPQC Autonomous Status, the highest possible award for a higher education institution, and TIP Manila, Deregulated Status.
The granting of autonomous status is much like a scorecard with corresponding weights or points given to specific indicators. TIPQC received points for its CODs, Level III Reaccredited Status for Civil Engineering, Computer Engineering and most recently, Electrical Engineering, its Level II Reaccredited Status for other programs, and its ISO 9001:2000 certification for its Quality Management System. Dr. Elizabeth Q. Lahoz, TIP president, explained that the new TIPQC COD in Civil Engineering has further raised the present total points of TIPQC.
