UP, DLSU, San Beda in Seasports Fest
MANILA, Philippines - Dragon boat teams from the University of the Philippines, De La Salle University and San Beda College are among those seeing action in the Manila Bay Seasports Festival scheduled on March 20-21. Organized by Manila Broadcasting Co. and the City of Manila in cooperation with the Philippine Coast Guard, the annual event has drawn the participation of rowing teams from all over the country.
Dragon boat clubs provide an environment where young people and sports enthusiasts develop physically, socially, mentally, and even spiritually.
The University of the Philippines is one institution that certainly encourages the development of non-UAAP sports through various organizations and activities. There is no lack of athletes in UP who bring honor to the university and to the country.
The San Beda Dragon Boat Rowing Society, in turn, started out as a special interest group. Recognized by Hands On Manila as an Outstanding Volunteer Group, San Beda’s water warriors also engage in feeding programs for streetchildren, renovate shelters, and repack relief goods for disaster victims.
“One Team, One Stroke, One Animo” is the battlecry of De La Salle University’s Dragon Boat Team. DLSU is the youngest team to participate in the regatta circuit.
