PWU holds Recognition Day
MANILA, Philippines - The Philippine Women’s University now on its 91st founding anniversary will hold its Recognition Day honoring outstanding members of the community in ceremonies to be held tomorrow, Feb. 26, 2 p.m. at the Conrado Benitez Hall, Taft campus, Manila.
Keynote speaker is Dr. Josefina Suarez, founding president of Elizabeth Seton School. A CAPA (Contributing, Achieving, Participating Alumna) awardee, she completed her secondary education, batch ’63 JASMS (Jose Abad Santos Memorial School) and her Master in Education in 1990 at PWU.
Leading the service awardees for 40 years of service is Martha Bitanga, while to be honored for 35 years are Myrna Alianza, Vicky de Jesus and Thelma Saludares and for 30 years are Isabel Guzman, Jose Lalis and Ireneo Sola Jr. and the lone awardee for 25 years of service is Marivic Tirona.
The Loyalty awardees are Mercedes Guison (55 years), Erlinda Chincuanco and Remedios Cruz (50 years) and Dr. Ignacio Pablo (15 years).
The special students awardees will be presented by Erlinda Chincuanco, while Petty Benitez-Johannot, HS class ’73 will hand over the certificates.
From JASMS-Manila, the gold medalists are Ahmad Asseel (National Inter-School Taekwondo) and Daniel Rivera Estefano (Asian Karting Open).
Venal Andrei and Lexter Longalong of School of Fine Arts garnered the grand prizes in the SM Supermall Digital Fine Arts and Shell Calendar contests, respectively, while Alvin Andrada, a Hotel and Restaurant student won the highest award in the “Baby Cakes” category of National Food Showdown 2009.
Similarly to be awarded are PWU athletes who won the championship in futsal of the Women’s National Collegiate Athletic Association, and in basketball of the Women’s Colleges Sports Association, and Ma. Angelica Manzanares who garnered the gold medal in the Badminton Ladies Singles and Doubles of the 12th National Special Olympics Philippines.
The Meritorious Service Awardees are Roque Barrete from Quezon City campus, Adalbert Alcaide and Jimson Aguilar from the School of the Hospitality Management.
This year’s chairperson of the recognition committee is Dean Edna Domiguez with Dr. Ligaya Braganza as co-chair.
