MANILA, Philippines - Bulacnin National High School in Lipa City received a one-story, two-classroom schoolhouse from the SM Group of Companies through SM Foundation. This is the first schoolbuilding turned over for 2010 and the 28th constructed by SM in response to the Adopt-a-School program of the Department of Education, even as more are expected to be turned over within the year.
Bulacnin National High School started as the Bulacnin Barrio High in 1971 with 30 students. In 2000, with the help of the city government under Mayor Vilma Santos Recto, an adjoining 8,404 sq. meter lot owned by the late Justo Katigbak was acquired after months of processing for the transfer of the title to the city government. Today, the school hosts 18 sections from freshman to the senior year, five sections in first year, five in second year, four in third and four in fourth year. It has a complement of 22 teachers.
On hand to receive the donation from SM Foundation officials led by Linda Atayde, executive director for education and Liza Dimaculangan, asst. mall manager of SM City Lipa were Lipa City Mayor Oscar Gozos, Schools Div. Superintendent Dr. Florencia De La Pena, Asst. Superintendent of Schools Carlito Ricaport, School Principal Balbina Dote, Barangay Captain Conrado Morada; and PTA president Rogelio Llanes, barangay officials, principals of Lipa high schools, faculty and students of Bulacnin National School witnessed the event.
